War Pensions
Sir.—There Is no sense in barking at Mr Connolly for a bungled system of war pensions which has been enforced since 1923. As a matter of fact, it was Gordon Coates, aided and abetted by the RS-A., who was responsible for the tangled sequence of playing off one pensioner again* the other. And none of the linisters since then has been any better. I realised in 1938 that the whole structure of war pensions should be completely re-written. This was also contended by the 2nd. N.Z.ET. Kiwis before the last war pensions commission in Dunedin. And, be it remembered, in the next seven years. National did nothing about it—Yours, etc., R. M. THOMSON. October 21, 1960.
