ADVERTISEMENT FOR STAFF
Cashmere High School Complaint “Someone with a blue pencil in the Education Department” so altered an essential part of a Cashmere High School advertisement for staff that it was “nonsensical” when It appeared in the "Education Gazette.” the headmaster (Mr T. H. McCombs) told the Board of Governors. The result might or might not be Serious, Mr McCombs said. As there were already about 30 applications it might be that teachers had spotted the error. On the other hand there might be others who were misled and failed to apply. Any teacher taking a second look would probably reed iq the actual requirements. As applications did not elose until Saturday, newspaper reports of the situation might prompt more possible candidates to check the position. “It certainly seems as though management in the department has slipped on this one.” said the chairman (Professor A. Crowther). The board would be justified in drawing attention to “a certain lack of efficiency.” Mr Duncan Mackay said the board should "draw attention to unwarranted interference with the advertisement, thus impairing its value” rather than criticise the efficiency of the department "Anyway there can be no dispute about the advertisement we sent in, as a carbon copy is held here,” said Mr McCombs. It was agreed to make a "mild protest”
