Cricket WEEDING OUT THROWERS
“Australia Must Share In Task” (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 14. Die weeding out of bowlers suspected of throwing was not a "witch hunt” by England, the “News Chronicle” sports writer, Crawford White, said today. “It is a purge agreed by all cricketing authorities. And*Australia has to take her share of the responsibility.” White was commenting on today's meeting of the Board of Control at Lords to discuss the Australian board’s "hush-hufh proposals'* to ensure that next summer's Australian tour of England proceeds harmoniously. "Rightly or wrongly most people here already infer that the Australian board is seeking some form of amnesty for their thrower*. Why else, they argue, would the board explain that in spite of the highest motives and goodwill, it would be imcxMsible to guarantee that the action of every bowler sent to England would meet with the approval of English umpires?"* Die logical Inference of that. White said, was that an attempt should be made to “adjust” the views of English umpires during the Australian tour. “I say that this must never be agreed to.” East ChristchurchShirley Club Officers elected at the annual meeting ot the East ChrtetehurehShirley Cricket Club were— Patron.
