McCool Fancied For Geraldine First Leg

McCool's form has usually stiffened when the tracks are easy, and conditions will suit this big Balloch gelding in the Claude Stock Memorial at Orari today.

The Claude Stock Memorial is the main race and first leg of the double at the Geraldine Racing Club’s first spring meeting.

McCool’s -latest rate was the Geraldine Cup, in which he beat all but Water Boy. There was only three-quarters of a length between them, and the run of the rade had a decisive bearing. While Water Boy was getting the run of the race close up on the inside, McCool was running three places wide on the turn leaving the straight and not altogether at ease on the bends. Water Boy has to give McCool 21b today and he might find that task beyond him, though he will be a popular choice for one of the places. The consistent Royal George and the promising Riccarton light-weight, Offend, will perhaps be the best of the others in the Stbck Memorial.

She should be Riccarton's best in the Held, but beating the Orari sprinters. ' London , Tower and Royal Order,- might be a little more than she can manage. London Tower was third to Cardinal King and-Pendennis at the first Geraldine spring meet-

ing. J. D. Pankhurst will ride this consistent Defaulter gelding today. Appreciate, a stablemate of London Tower, will start his eight-year-old racing in the Steward’s Handicap. He will be ridden by the apprentice F. Smith, who can claim a full allowance. Royal Order looked a little bit above the average run of hack Sprinters on the Canterbury provincial circuit and graduated with some smart performances. The Stewards’ Handicap will be her first open-class test, but she could come through it creditably. Jack Ashore was scratched yesterday from the Stewards’ Handicap and Pendennis was scratched earlier in the week. , / Scratchings have allowed On Time. Blue Haven. Windvale Lad and Mainroyal. the only remaining reserves, to re-enter thp Winchester Handicap field. Interlaken. Corrieonzo. and Pinnacle Stream were scratched yesterday from the Winchester Handicap.

Riccarton Horses Coming Home

Quite Able and Studio are to return from Wellington without racing at Trentham. They have been scratched from their engagements today because of 'the deterioration in the track after recent rain.

Quite Able and Studio are not likely to be taken back for the second and third days of the Wellington meeting. Quite Able was an acceptor tor the £3OOO Wellington Handicap the first leg jf the double, and Studio was a form horse for the October Hack Handicap. Z
