CUP HOPES AT WINTON
Osman Picked “The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. October 14. Six of the seven runners in the Soldiers’ Memorial Handicap, main event at the Winton Jockey Club’s spring meeting tomorrow, are ■ candidates for the New Zealand Cup at Riccarton next month. The seventh runner in the field is Peril. Osman may prove the best of them. Garrob and Barrister, bo|h from T. E. Pankhurst’s Invercargill team, are also expected to play leading roles. The double will be on the Stewards’ Purse Handicap and , the .Lochiel Handicap, for which Sabin ahd Grate Gqme will be a strongly fancied' combination. There was heavy rain at Winton yesterday, but it has not had much effect on the track, which has. been hard and fast for some time. Selections:— 11 a.m.—Turi Hack Hurdles: Surapt. Prince Ermine.
