COMMISSIONER OF TRANSPORT
Mr A. E. Forsyth To Succeed Mr Smith (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 13. Mr A. E. Forsyth has been appointed Commissioner of Transport in succession to Mr H. B. Smith, who retires on October 31. Mr Forsyth, who has been assistant commissioner for the last
six years, is due back in Wellington tomorrow from an oversees visit. He represented New Zealand at the fifth international road safety conference at Nice. After graduating from Canterbury University College in 1926, Mr Forsyth served with the Hawke’s Bay County Council. He joined the Public Works Department in Wellington in 1928 and the Transport Department in 1933 as assistant engineer. He was appointed civil engineer to the department in 1937, and traffic engineer in 1946. Mr Forsyth, who was born in Nelson in 1902, received his early education in the Manawatu.
