Bowls WOMEN'S CLUBS OPENING DAYS
Beckenham And Barrington The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) accompanied by Mrs Manning, officially opened the season for the Barrington Women's Bowling Club recently. Mrs F. Warren, the president of the club, welcomed visitors and members. The men’s club was represented by its president (Mr M. Robinson), and Mrs Sneddon, president of the Christchurch Women’s Club, extended her wishes for a successful season. The first kitty was thrown by Mrs C. Mahan, vice-president, and Mrs Manning played the first bowl. Mrs G. McDonald, president of the Beckenham Ladies’ Bowling Club, welcomed all members and visitors to the club’s opening, which was held recently. The men’s president (Mr J. Lyell), Mrs Graham, representing the women’s centre, and Mr Harker-Brown, men’s centre delegate. All wished the club every success for the coming season.
Mr J. Morrison, who has been club auditor for the last 10 years, was presented with a small gift in appreciation of his work. Mrs A. Turner rolled up the first kitty, and Mrs Dale, vice-president, delivered the first bowl.
