OVERSHOT THE RUNWAY.—A four-engined- Hennes aircraft of Falcon Airways rests with its nose on the railway lines at Rochford, near Southend-on-Sea, Essex, on October 9, after plunging over an embankment when it overshot the runway on landing at the Southend airport. The plane stopped just before its fuselage could have come into contact with high voltage electric cables only 15ft above. The 71 passengers and the crew of five escaped serious injury. The passengers were returning from a holiday in Spain.
