GENERAL: The Division of Soils carries out research at its headquarters in Adelaide, S.A., and at four main regional laboratories elsewhere in Australia.' At Hobart, Tas., the regional laboratory is engaged, as a major project, on the study of the cobalt status of Tasmanian soils in relation to soil type productivity and animal health. Work on the availability of cobalt in different soils, fixation by soils, losses by leaching and uptake by plants is now to be intensified under a grant from the Wool Industry Research Fund. The field aspects of' the problem will be dealt with in collaboration with the research pedologists of the region and in association with the State Veterinary Service. DUTIES: To initiate, organise and actively ’ participate in an enlarged programme of research on cobalt in soils. The appointee will have the assistance of a qualified chemist and a technical assistant specially for the project.
