Drop Of £47,856 For September
.Customs revenue collected at Christchurch for September decreased by £47,856, compared with September, 1959.
There was also a decrease of £691,175 in the revenue collected for the six months ending September 30, compared with the same period in the previous year. The biggest drop was in Customs and excise, which dropped by £43,227, compared with September, 1959. The September, 1960 figures, with the September, 1959 figures in parentheses, are: Customs and excise, £557,775 (£601,102); petrol tax, £182,493 (£166,466); tyres, £738 (£235); sales tax, £208,216 (£228,052); light dues, £1372 (£1615); miscellaneous, £1546 (£2526). Total tax, £952,140 (£999,996). The six-mouth total for 1960611, with the 1959-60 totals in parentheses, are: Customs and excise, £3,293,508 (£3,232,138); petrol tax, £993,770 (£935,096); tyres, £3561 (£1701); sales tax, £1,152,902 (£1,337,230); light dues, £7529 < £ 7174); miscellaneous, £ 13,353 (£11,289). Total, £5.464,268 (£5,524,983). AUCKLAND Revenue collected by the Customs Department at the Port of Auckland during September was:— Customs, £1,292,381 (£1,407,902 in September, 1959); petrol tax, £462,348 (£490,341); tyre duty. £4502 (£1694); sales tax. £555,198 (£593,817); other, £524,191 (£553.639); total. £2.838.618 (£3,047,483). r Total for the nine months is £24,148,937 (£23.337.952). WELLINGTON Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Wellington during September totalled £3.003.373. compared with £2,712,708 in September last year. Details are:—customs. £1.147.189 (£1.122.027 last year); sales tax, £1.386.524 (£1,163.761); petrol tax. £261.059 (£233.460): tyre duty. £lBl5 (£332); miscellaneous, £206,786 (£193,119). Williams and Kettle.—Net profit of Williams and Kettle, Ltd., Napier, for the year to June 30. 1960. was £68946, against £62980 the previous year. The result is reached after provision of £44962 (£42975) for depreciation and £87,849 (£87,184) for tax.
