AMERICANS IN CUBA
Advice To Leave Country (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Sept 29. The United States Embassy has advised American businessmen and other United States citizens in Cuba to get their women and children out of the country. Between 3500 and 4000 persons see affected. ,
A State Department announcement today said similar advice had been given to United States diplomats and other Embassy employees in recent weeks. It said the advice was deemed “necessary and prudent” because of the extent to which Cuban authorities had been harassing United States citizens, or falling to provide adequate protection tor them.
A department spokesman said, however, thav the step had not been taken because of any anticipated crisis in United StatesCuban relations. He said he had no information that It was preliminary to a diplomatic break between Washington and Havana. A Navy Department spokesman said the advice for removal of dependents from Cuba did not apply to the 2900 dependents of United States service Staff at the Guantanamo Naval Base. ,
