Paton that a latter be sent to the Attorney-General (Mr Mason) asking for legislation prohibiting the publication of names and addresses ot winners of both New Zealand and overseas art unions and lotteries, was supported
unanimously. Mr Paton said the travic circumstances of the recent Thome kidnapping were still fresh in the minds of New Zealand people. “It occurred as a occult of the name of a lottery winner being published.’ 1 he said. “I am not criticising the newspaper* but the Australian kidnapping would certainly not have occurred if the names had not been published," he said. “Another less important aspect of the publicity is that the fortunate lottery winners are in danger of having their lives ruined by persons continually asking for money," said Mr Paton. He suggested that by law. only the numbers and nom-de-plumes of winner* should be published.
