(52. Press Association—CopyrigM) MOSCOW. September 2. Three new world car speed ■records have been claimed by a Soviet driver, the official Soviet news agency, Tass, reported today from Astrakhan. On a dry salt lake in the lower Volga Valley, Eduard Lorent covered one kilometre (0.621 miles) from a running start at an average speed of 225.6 kilometres an hour (about 140 miles an hour) in a 350 c.c. car of his own design, the agency said. He also covered five kilometres (about three miles) at an average of 220 kilometres an hour (about 136 miles an hour). In the same car, but with a 250 c.c. engine, he averaged 193.4 kilometres an hour (about 120 miles an hour) over five kilometres from a running start. His performances have been submitted for international ratification.
