AUSTRALIAN WOMEN WIN AT NELSON

(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, September 4. The Australian women’s indoor basketball team continued its New Zealand tour with a very convincing 48-18 win over Nelson at the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium last evening. Nelson was not at its best form and the team had difficulty in countering the Australians’ excellent man-to-man defensive system, and their extremely swift passing. Mistakes made by Nelson in passing and handling were quickly seized upon by the Australians and they turned such errors to good account. For Australia, B. Cockburn (14), R. Dawd (9), E. Taylor (8) and L. Eiler (7) were the main points scorers. The Nelson captain, I. Brough, was topscorer for Nelson with 6 points. The Australian team left this morning for Wellington where it will take part unofficially in the New Zealand women’s indoor basketball championships which commence tomorrow. The first test between New Zealand and Australia will be played tomorrow week.
