JUNIOR CUP FINAL

Canterbury Beaten Otago, co-holder of the Junior National Cup, narrowly beat Canterbury in the South Island final at English Park on Saturday. The final score of 3-2 was gained after 20 minutes extra time. Play was not outstanding. The forwards for both teams had many chances to score but weak shots and some good saves kept goals at a mininjum. Canterbury defenders, R. Boyd (goalkeeper), K. Barrett (fujl-back) and A. Berry (centre-half) were the most prominent. D. Duffey and D. Watson played sound games in the forward positions. Otago’s captain and centre-half, S. Duncan, guided his defence! in an astute manner, and his personal contribution was outstading. The visiting inside trio of W. Fleming, P. williams and R. Elmes were the most reliable forwards. Otago replied to Canterbury’s opening goal by Duffey when Williams scored after a fine solo run. D. Watson put the home team into the lead once more when he scored from a rebound. Otago replied by the centre forward, Williams, sending a good shot home. W. Fleming scored the winning goal for Otago during the extra time when he sent a 30 yard drive into the back of the net. The referee was Mr F. Mallins. Moturoa’s Surprise Win Against Northern (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, August 7.
