Haematologist’s Warning
SYDNEY, Agust 2. More atomic tests would increase the danger of leukemia, one of the world’s leading haematologists. Dr. William Dameshek, said in Sydney last night. Dr. Dameshek, the director of the blood research laboratory of the New England Medical Centre Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, is on a threeday lecture tour of Australia. iladiation from nuclear fall-out so far was small. “But more atomic tests will build up danger of radiation, which is one of the causes of leukemia,” he said. Dr. Dameshek said chemicals used in industry, drugs, nuclear radiation, and X-rays were some of the dangers. He said he thought X-ray radiation was more harmful at present than nuclear fall-out. “Unfortunately, the X-ray is one of these things we can’t do without in medicine," he said. ; /
