The Rev. J. Tennent, formerly of Gore, was inducted as minister of the Presbyterian Church at Lyttelton last evening by the Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery (the Rev. M. W. Wilson). Mr Tennent replaces the Rev. D. K. Boyd, who has been transferred to Ashburton. Mr J. K. McAlpine, member of Parliament for Selwyn, will officially open the new Hornby scout den on August 7. The scout group, which has been established 14 years, formerly held its meetings in the Hornby Presbyterian Hall.
Mr G. C. Suggate’s secondment as traffic engineer to the Christchurch Regional Planning Authorfor a term extended to June 30, 1961, has been recommended Jo the Ministry of Works. . Mr W. St O. Horman, who has been appointed South Auckland district senior inspector of schools, was previously senior inspector of Maori schools. He was for five years a senior lecturer at the Christchurch Teachers’ College. M- Plowright, clerk to the Chatham Islands County Council, has been appointed secretary of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority. He will begin duties in two months
