FLUCTUATIONS IN GOLD RETURNS

(New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, August 2. Fluctuations have been recorded in the recent monthly returns of Arahura and Kanieri, the two West Coast units of Gold Mines of New Zealand, Ltd. A total of 2032 ounces was recovered by the two dredges in their July working—a drop of 1430 z on the June figure of 21750 z.

However, the amount was still above the May total of 1803 oz and the April figure, which was 15390 z. The March return was 22550 z.

Arahura had a substantially better working than in June. Last month, lllloz was recovered from 330,000yds in 528 hrs of work, as against the 700 oz from 278.000yds in 507 hrs. Kaniere bullion return* showed a big drop. The dredge worked over 375,000yds in 534 hr for 9210 z. in June, recovering 1470 z from 274,000yds in 440 hrs. In four months of work the dredges have netted 75170 z of gold, against an approximate 10,800 oz in the same period last year.
