Motor-Racing CIRCUIT AT MONZA
British Drivers’ Ultimatum (N.Z Press Association—Copyrights LONDON, August 2. The Australian world champion driver. Jack Brabham, and top British drivers and racing car builders are sending this ultimatum to the organisers of the Italian Grand Prix: “we refuse to enter the race unless the circuit is altered.” They say the combination of a road Circuit and banked tracks at Monza introduces unnecessary dangers for the public as well as drivers, according to the “Daily Mail.” This year the Monza race is also the European Grand Prix. It will be held on September 4. The decision to boycott the race if the organisers insist on going ahead with their plans was made in the pits at Brands Hatch, Kent, yesterday. More than 60,000 persons watched the first international formula one racing on the newly-extended circuit. As Brabham flashed to victory in a Cooper in the Silver City Trophy race, the leading car constructors drew up their Monza letter. It said: “In view of the failure by the Automobile Club of Milan to reply to a letter and telegram requesting the circuit to be reconsidered, we. the undersigned, agree not to participate in this event unless the club finally decides to use the road circuit only.”
