Panatana Scores At 250 To 1
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. August 2. Panatana won the Accountants’ Handicap, the main race at Randwick yesterday, at the record long price for Sydney of 250 to 1. Only one winner In Australia has started at a longer price. That was two-year-old Magic Wind, which started at 330 to 1 when he won a race at Doomben on March 10, 1959. Panatana’s win gave the apprentice Peter Henry his first race success. The victory of El Rocco’s win In the Bank Holiday Handicap also paid off for three women punters, who made a mistake, but collected £502 9s 9d for an outlay of £3 15s. The women intended to back the field in the Accountants’ Handicap (11 runners) with No. 15 (Royal Mail) in the Bank Holiday Handicap. The normal request for tickets would be “the field with No. 15.” The investor for the women asked for “No. 15 and the field,” for which she received a ticket on Panatana with each runner in the Bank Holiday Handicap.
