A thousand carloads of toheroa diggers flocked to Muriwai beach on Sunday. Two, stuck on the beach, had to be towed to safety. Both cars were bogged down in soft sand, one with a mechanical failure and the second with a puncture. It was an early tide and the first diggers were on the beach about 6 ajn. Hie. sea was calm and the beach remained safe until well into the afternoon. People who know the beds well believe they have now become seriously depleted in many stretches of the beach.—(P_A.)
