N.Z. TOUR BY COLOUREDS

Suggestion Put To Pearce [FROM GRAEME JENKINS N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent} JOHANNESBURG, July 31. The manager of the 1960 All Blacks (Mr T. H. Pearce) Will take back to New Zealand a suggestion that a South African coloured team should tour New Zealand and play matches against Maori sides, then travel to Fiji. The suggestion has been raised by the Western Province Coloured Rugby Football Union, the secretary of which (Mr G. N. Khan) has denied a further report that the All Blacks had considered playing a combined Bantu and coloured “Springbok” side on the present tour. ‘’While we feel we have enough talent in our Bantu, coloured and Indian teams to match international sides, we do not want to make a proposal that would embarrass the Union Government or controllers of the game in the country. “The AU Blacks showed us great kindness visiting our clubs and assisting in charity drives. “It would be putting them in a very difficult position to ask them to go further and try to arrange a match against our men, a match which would not be feasible for several reasons,” he said.
