Football Match Riot At Durban
(Rec. 10.30 p.m) DURBAN, August 1.
At least 20 persons were injured when part of a crowd of 2700 non-whites ran wild at a soccer match between South African Indians and South African Africans yesterday. Hundreds of bottles were thrown and a section of fencing was torn away. Among the injured was a 19-year-old white police constable who suffered a head wound from a flying bottle. Fighting broke out 10 minutes from the end, with the Africans leading four goals to two. The match was abandoned as players dashed from the field to escape oncoming spectators.
