Lumumba Denies Reports Of Rape
NEW YORK, July 31. The Prime Minister of the Congo. Mr Lumumba, told reporters last night "the stories of the so-called rape of white women by Congolese are plots built up. by our enemies.” He made this reply when asked to repeat his denial that there had been any raping when the Congo obtained its independence from Belgium. “I defy our enemies to show proof. If there is proof the perpetrators will be severely dealt with. There will be no covering up." he said. He angrily denied the statement by a Belgian Royal Commission that an investigation bad disclosed that at least 291 women had been criminally assaulted by Congolese soldiers. The reports were fabrications by foreign newspapermen, Mr T.niTinmha raid. ,
