In Favour Of Electricity
"Anyone with a major fencing programme should consider permanent electric fencing.” This advice was given by Mr Peter M. Falconer, field officer to the Lauriston Farm Improvement Club, at the club annual meeting this week. “The electric fence is easy and quick to construct, permanent and reliable if properly erected, and of low cost.”
Mr Falconer said that some farmers were now considering the possibility of permanent electric fencing. • One farmer with a fairly big fencing programme for a 450-acre property had already erected 43 chains of this type of fence for a total cost of £B5 or £2 a chain. The standard type of concrete post and dropper fence would have cost at least £216 or £5 a chain. If the length of fence had been greater the difference would have been even more marked.
