JOBS FOUND FOR 815 PERSONS
Labour Department’s Placement Service In the last six months, 815 persons have been placed in employment by the Labour Department in Christchurch—62o men and 195 women. The busiest period for the department was last March, when 157 men and 36 women were found jobs. These figures took account *of only those who haff definitely taken up the employment arranged for them, said the superintendent of the Labour Department (Mr C. P. Collins) yesterday. “Our aim is to find the right man for the job,” Mr Collins said. “Our biggest problem is finding a job for the man who is unable to do heavy work. “However, last week, we placed three handicapped persons in jobs who had been unemployed for 13 weeks,” said Mr Collins. The Labour Department’s placement service keeps a staff of four men and one woman busy from week to week, interviewing persons and placing them in suitable work, as well as running the department’s home aid service. There are 15 home aids in the direct employ of the department, who are kept fully occupied in helping in private homes while the housewife is undergoing a confinement, or is ill.
