Marlborough Beaten In First Round IFrvm Out Own Reporter! ' GREYMOUTH, July 29. A surprise in the opening series of matches tn the annual Maadi Cup hockey tournament at Nimmo Park. Greymouth, this morning was the defeat of Marlborough, the bolder of the trophy, by Nelson by 1 goals to 1 The game was played in showery weather on a wet. slippery ground. The match was evenly contested. Nelson led by 2 goal* to 1 at .halftime. and there was no score in the second Spell. G. Strawbridge and R. Bennett scored tor Nelson and A. Yarrall tor Marlborough. In the other game. West Coast A beat West Coast B by 7 goals to 1. Scorers ter West Coast A were R Clements (3). G Ramsden (2). R. Beat, and L. Worthington. G. Edwards scored for West Coast B. The afternoon games were played under worse condition*. In a keen game. West Coest A drew with Nelson, 4-all Nelson was leading 4-2 when West Coast recovered. Best (3) and Ramsden scored for West Coast, and F. Strlekett, Strawbridge and Bennett for Nelson. In the other afternoon game. Marlborough 5 beat West Coast B 0.
