CURRENT NOTES
Registered Nurses.—Negotiations were proceeding for the purchase of a new headquarters in Wellington, reported Mrs M. Chambers, vice-president of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association, at a recent meeting of the Canterbury branch of the association. It was suggested that each member contribute £ 1 to buy a brick for the new centre. Miss M. Tonkin, nurse Inspector of the Department of Health, was welcomed to the meeting. Miss Tonkin was previously an executive member of the Waikato branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association, before she was transferred from Hamilton. Richmond Plunket Mothers.— "Back to Childhood” was the theme of the fifth birthday party of the Richmond Plunket Mothers* Club. Mrs S. Tanner welcomed 45 members and invited guests. Mrs L. Merrifield cut the birthday cake and wished the club a very successful year. Competition awards were made to the following:—Mrs M. Marsden, Mrs S. Wise, Mrs K. Thornton and Mrs R. McKenzie.
Life Member.—Mrs S. Creagh was elected the first woman life* member of the Woolston Brass Band at the annual meeting. She has been connected with the band since 1915. Mr W. F. Steere, a life member of the band, presented Mrs Creagh with his life membership badge, and spoke of the great amount of work she had done for the band. “I have seen Mrs Creagh working here - all day,” said Mr Steere. “And some of the night,” said another member from the back of the hall. She was the band's accompanist. Her son, Mr S. Creagh, is the band sergeant.
