ANNIVERSARY MEETINGS
C.W.I. Branches
Three branches of the Canterbury East Federation of Country Women’s Institutes celebrated anniversaries with birthday parties recently. The Hornby C.W.I. celebrated its tenth birthday, Mr R. Hill presided. Items were given by Mrs D. Pashby, Mrs L. Meyer, the institute choir, the drama group and the Skiffle band. The birthday cake was cut by the federation president, Mrs H. Prebble. Trophies awarded were:— Thompson Cup for» horticulture, Mrs- M. McKenzie and Mrs M. Gordon: Hill Cup for cooking, Mrs M. Gordon and Mrs K, Wellsmore; Institute Cup for general work, Mrs M. Gordon and Mrs M. Parker.
The Springston C.W.I. 1 was formed in 1931 and an afternoon gathering was held to mark the anniversary. Mrs R. Findlay presided. A programme of musical items was presented tfy members and the birthday cake was cut by Mrs R. Powell, a foundation member. Prizes were presented by Mrs Prebble.
The twenty-eighth anniversary of the Ladbrooks C.W.I. was celebrated with a concert presented by the Hoon Hay and Spreydon Townswomen’s Guild. Guests were welcomed by the president (Mrs P. Rea) who also presented trophies won in monthly competitions. Mrs H. Coleman, >a foundation member, cut the birthday cake, with the group convenor (Mrs G. Page) and Mrs Prebble.
