American Elections
Sir,—“Academia” asks rhetorically why the Western world is
“free” and the Communist one not so. One answer is that British and American subjects, both white and black, are allowed to travel freely about the world. Another that the press of these countries can give hell to their elected representatives if they feel so inclined. I quite agree that the American elections are "dull’’ from our point of view. So are those of Sweden or Cambodia; but not so dull as those in Russia, where the elector is given one candidate to vote for—the Communist one—and who, if he is prudent, he will obediently support—or else. Otherwise “Academia” and I are in complete-agree-ment. How stupid, indeed, can people get?—Yours, etc.. ALLEZ VOUS EN.
