CALL FOR AIR SEARCH
Two Japanese Trawlers Missing (A’ew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 29. Three RaN2.A.F. Sunderland flying-boats from No. 5 Maritime Squadron, Fiji, will begin searching tomorrow morning for two Japanese fishing boats missing between Fiji and New Zealand. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs today reported to the Fijian Government that the Citose Maru, of 100 tons, with a crew of 22, had been missing since July 21. She was last reported 450 miles south of Fiji. Later the mother ship of the Citose Maru reported a second boat missing in the area, 550 miles south-south-west of Fiji, approximately half-way between Fiji and Auckland. The search and rescue centre at Nandi requested the help of the RN.ZA.F. in the search, and the three Sunderlands will take off at first light tomorrow. Two of the aircraft’ will fly on to the R.N.ZA..F. station at Hobsonville after carrying out their search and they will continue the search’ on the Sunday if necessary. The other Sunderland will return to Lauthala Bay.
