ENDEAVOUR IN HIGH SEAS

Ship Puts In For Shelter (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, July 28. Battered for more than 30 hours by a southerly storm the naval supply ship Endeavour arrived at Gisborne harbour this afternoon to shelter till the weather moderates. On a trip from Auckland to Wellington she was buffeted by seas mounting to 25ft and winds gusting up to 55 knots. Even driving at 10 knots she was at times going backwards. The Endeavour first hit the rough weather about East Cape at 3 a.ni. yesterday, and at 6 pan. yesterday she passed about 19 miles due east qf Gisborne. At 10 a.m. today she was still about 19 miles due east of Gisborne, so the captain (Lieutenant R. F. Vosper) headed for Gisborne for shelter. The vessel berthed about 2 p.m. The ship is on a supply run between the North and South Islands. She is expected to sail tomorrow.
