Table Tennis N.Z. TITLES Seedings Announced
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 28. Mrs J. Green, who has never played in a New Zealand table tennis championship, has been seeded No. 1 for the women’s singles in this year's championships to be played at Hawera from August 31 to September 2. Last years champion', Mrs P. M. Purdon (Canterbury), is not an entrant. Mrs Green, from Northland, is the North Island champion. She is a former Australian representative who came to New Zealand last February. The only South Islander seeded is Mrs M. J. Shadbolt, of Canterbury. Three of the eight seeds are juniors, but in the men's singles no junior is seeded. The top three seeds are the same as for the North Island championship, but B. A. Foster (Otago), the South Island champion, has improved on his fifth seed for that tournament and is now fourth seed. Thus the four semi-finalists in the men's singles at the North Island championships are to be the top four seeds for the New Zealand singles. The seeds are:— Men’s Singles.—A. R. Tomlinson (Auckland) 1, M. L. Dunn (Wellington), 2, G. A. J. Frew (Northland) 3, B. A. Foster (Otago) 4. J. Armstrong (Canterbury) 5, L. A. Rau (Franklin) 6, R. W. R.
