LOW ATTENDANCE RECORD LIKELY

The attendance at the South Africa-Surrey match is expected to be the worst on record at the Oval for an international, according to the “Dally Express. The lowest - known figure was 168.602 In 1958. but the Surrey secretary (Mr R. -Babb) said after the first day’s play yesterday that he expected the new record to be very much lower. Yesterday there were only 4000 paying spectators, according to the “Daily Exprss.” Hundreds were so bored that they left at the tea interval, after watching the slow scoring rate of 36 runs an hour. There is unlikely to be a full day’s play today. It rained throughout the night in London and more is forecast.
