IN MEMORY OF THE GOOD OLD DAYS.—This is an era of tractor ploughing. Ploughing matches are no longer an arena for a host of fine horse teams, yet it is not so many years ago that they were a feature of ploughing contests and there are many who think that ploughing matches have lost something of their old glamour through their passing. The photograph above was taken at a Rakaia ploughing match 22 years ago. The team is that of H. E. Cook and was judged the best decorated team on the ground. The Model T Ford makes a fitting background to the acene, for its widespread use by farmers was the first step in the use of motor power on New Zealand farms.
