£200,000 HOME FOR AGED

Methodist Central Mission Plans

Plans for a £200,000 home, hospital and serviced flats for the aged was outlined to the annual meeting of the board of management of the Christchurch Methodist Central Mission last evening. The area for the proposed scheme is on the ground now owned by the South Island Methodist Children’s Homes trustees near Harewood and Matsons roads. The initial plan is for a threestorey hospital and administration block and for staff quarters to accommodate 32 persons in a separate building. The ground floor of the hospital block would be for administrative purposes and the first and second floors, would be for hospital nursing with 30 beds on each floor.

Serviced flats are also planned. If these are not within the administrative block an alternative scheme is proposed to have them as separate units in another part of the grounds. “We cannot consider doing this at all if the present Government subsidy of 100 per cent, is not in operation,” said the superintendent of the mission (the Rev. W. E Falkingham). The meeting decided that inquiries would be made from the Government and the children’s homes trustees.
