SOCKBURN-STYX RAIL LOOP
Planners Satisfied With Proposal
The technical advisory committee of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority is satisfied that, in the meantime, the policy of the Railways Department on the Sockburn-Styx railway loop line is a reasonable one, and that plans for the development of the region should have regard to the policy.
Commenting on the loop line proposal, which has affected planning thoughts for many years, the committee says in its annual report that the department’s policy is that while there is no immediate need for the line, it will form a vital link in an efficient South Island trunk system. Where a formed public road crossed the line, the department was obliged to provide an overbridge if required.
