PARLIAMENT’S DIARY
When Parliament resumed yesterday afternoon, the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) rose immediately to move the suspension of Standing Orders so that the Nelson Railway Authorisation Bill could be passed to all stages. This motion was debated for two hours. The Government carried the resulting division 3837. This meant that Parliament was likely to sit all night, as each member is entitled to speak for half an hour during the second-reading debate and for 20 minutes in the committee stages. During the evening, one amendment was put forward, to which members will also speak. The speakers till 11.30 pm. were:— GOVERNMENT: Mr E. J. Keating (Hastings), the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Skinner), the Minister of Railways (Mr Moohan), the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) the Minister of Transport (Mr Mathison). ■OPPOSITION: Messrs T- T. Murray (Stratford), J. K. McAlpine (Selwyn), W. A. Sheat (Egmont), D. J. Carter (Raglan), P. B. Allen (Bay of Plenty), W. S. Goosman (Piako), A. E. Allen (Franklin). At 11.10 p.m. the division bells rang to summon members back to the chamber, as Government representation had fallen below the permitted minimum.
