PERSIA HITS AT NASSER
“Feeble-Minded Pharaoh”
(Rec. 9 p.m.) TEHERAN, July 28. The Persian Foreign Minister. Mr Abbas Aram, announcing that Persia had broken off diplomatic relations with the United Arab Republic, yesterday, described President Nasser as “this feebleminded Pharoah,” British United Press reported. The United Arab Republic Ambassador, Mr Maimoud Hammad. was given 24 hours to leave Persia. The action follows the expulsion of the Persian envoy in Cairo because of Persian recognition of Israel—which, said Mr Aram, was de facto recognition given 10 years ago. He said that Persia would not resume diplomatic relations with the United Arab Republic so long as the present “illegal” regime was in power. “This feeble-minded man plans to assume the leadership of all the Moslem countries of the world.” Mr Aram said. “But we neither want his leadership nor his protection, and he cannot act as the spokesman for the other Moslem countries." Anniversary of Jets.—Qantas will tomorrow celebrate the first anniversary of the introduction of Boeing 707 jets into Australia’s international air traffic. Since the seven Boeings Were introduced they have carried 78,141 passengers and travelled the equivalent of 290 times around the world.—(Sydney, July 28).
