TROTTING AU FAIT TO RUN AT NATIONAL MEETING

Au Fait, the third highest stake winning trotter this season, will make a fresh start at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting at Addington next month.

She is one of six members of R. Young’s team in steady work at present. The stable will also be represented at Addington next month. She is one of six members of R. Young’s team in steady work at present. The stable will also be represented at Addington by Fourth Edition, Mighty Mina, Bracken Brae and Medalla..

Light Rey, the sixth member of the team, will make her reappearance at the New Brighton meetings the following month.

K. D. Murray, first reinsman to the stable, has been supervising the training of the team while R. Young has been on holiday overseas. Young, who has visited the United States, England and Scotland, is expected to return home in the next week. In the United States he attended Yonkers Raceway, New York, and saw the first two series of International races in which Caduceus competed. Only two trotters earned more than Au Fait this season. They were Battle Cry and Annual Report. Battle Cry headed, the list with £3145. His total came from four wins and six minor placings. With the exception of two wins and the same number of places all his other stake-winning runs were against the top pacers competing at Alexandra Park. Annual Report earned £2725 but £l3OO of that total was gained for his first in the Dominion Handicap at Addington in November. That was the first of his two successes for the season. Au Fait’s four wins and three places from eight starts were worth £2260. She should continue to do well in the new season.

Fourth Edition graduated to a 4min 23sec mark for two miles when he gained his third win for the season at his last start in the Easter Cup at Addington in April. Fourth Edition, which is now eligible to start in the New Zealand Cup in November, will probably contest the Louisson and National Handicaps at the National meeting. He was the eleventh highest stake-winning pacer this season. He earned £2985.

Mighty Mina and Medalla both won two races this season, but the best that Bracken Brae could manage In six starts was a third to his stablemate Mighty Mina in the Queen Mary Handicap at Addington last August. If he stays sound, Mighty Mina should soon extend his record, for he is held in high regard by his trainer. He had only four

races in the early part of this season before having to be put aside because of soreness. He has been back in training for about three months now but as yet has done very little fast work. Light Rey, which was formerly trained in the North Island, showed promise in the two races she has had since coming to Canterbury in the latter stages of this season. Light Rey, a four-year-old Light Brigade mare, is a nonwinner.

Two rising three-year-olds in the stable at present being educated are both stock of Johnny Globe. One is a gelding out of Titania and the other a filly from Empress Anne. The dams of both these youngsters are daughters of Emulous. Titania’s dam was Starace, a good race mare herself, and a half-sister to the good pacers Knave of Diamonds, Radical and Czardas. Empress Anne is out of Noble Anne, the dam also of Kyle Nurse, Kyle Lass, Kyle Maid and Premium.

The three-year-old trotter, Front Line, which has been spelling since March, will be brought back into work soon. This brother to Battle Cry should develop good form next season.
