NEW GEOGRAPHY LECTURER

MrLJ. King, From lowa

Mr L. J. King, at present a research assistant at tht State University of lowa, will return as lecturer to the geography department of the University of Canterbury, where he graduated. He has won a number of honours in the United States and will receive his doctorate in philosophy on August 11.

Mr King, who is 25. was educated at the Christchurch Boys’ High School, entered the University of Canterbury in 1952. graduated in 1955. and took a master of arts degree with honours in geography in 1957. He had also spent a year in the graduate division of the Christchurch Teachers’ College. Before he had considered any appointment he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and went to the graduate college of the State University of lowa. As well as the Fulbright grant, he was awarded a United States Government scholarship for 1957-58, an lowa graduate scholarship for 1957-59, and then an lowa graduate fellowship for 1959-60. During 1958-59 Mr King was employed on a naval research project conducted at the university and this year he is research assistant on a business administration project. He specialises on economic and urban geography. North America, and quantitative methods.
