LAVER BEATEN IN U.S.
National Clay Court Championships (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) CHICAGO, July 25. The United States Davis Cup team veteran, B. Bartzen, aged 32, yesterday outplayed Australia’s R. Laver in a four set semi-final at the United States national clay court championships. Bartzen. seeking his fourth clay courts title, plays in the final today (Sunday) against his fellow cup team member, B. McKay, the top seed in the tournament. Second seeded Bartzen played a steady, methodical game to keep the upper hand throughout against the more brilliant, but erratic Laver, to win 6-4, 6-1, 6-8, 6-2. In the doubles final, R. Hewitt and Mulligan, of Australia, meet R. Emhart, of California, and M. Riessen, of Illinois. Hewitt and M. Mulligan, of Australia, meet Miami Beach, and L. Nagler, of North Hollywood, California, 6-1, 5- 6-4, 6-2. Ernhart and Riessen beat the Australian team of Laver and R. Mark, 2-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6- 6-4,
