Women's Hockey N.Z. WINS 4-1
Victoria Beaten (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) • MELBOURNE. July 23. I The New Zealand women’s hockey 1 team beat Victoria by 4 goals to 1 today. Scorers for New Zealand were Burt (2). Donnelly and Logan. New Zealand attacked from .the outset and had a territorial advantage throughout the first half, in which three goals were scored. In the second half. Victoria was on top with New Zealand at times lagging. Many promising attacks by the New Zealand forxvards were broken up by the sound Victorian defence, and especially by the goalkeeper. Burt’s goals were the result of good interception and following up. Donnelly, at centre-forward, scored with a stinging shot after play had fluctuated near the edge of the circle. Logan's goal was a typical centre-half shot after a series of hard-fought corners.
The final score was a good indi. cation of the game. A lack of combination in the New Zealand team was apparent, but there should be an improvement as the tour proceeds. The ground was wet and muddy, being detrimental to good passing
