JET EJECTOR SEAT MISHAP
Airman Killed (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 21. A flight-sergeant was killed today when he was shot 40ft in the air while working 'on a Sabre, jet fighter’s ejector seat at Williamtown, a Royal, Australian Air Force station, near Newcastle. It is believed he bit his head on the cockpit cover as he was fired from the plane. The sergeant, whose name has not been released, crashed down on one of the plane’s wings. Two mechanics were working on the plane with the sergeant when the accident, happened. The sergeant was in the cockpit when the ejector gear fired. A senior R.A.A.F. officer said: “He was sitting in the seat facing the jet’s nose when the seat was released.”
