Police Allegation Against Negro
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) DETROIT, July 21. A father who wrapped a 16ft long car towing chain around his 14-year-old daughter’s neck and locked it in order to keep her home was held today for investigation on charges of cruelty to children. Police went to the home of Styling Shazier, aged 50, following an anonymous telephone call. They said they found Shazier’s daughter, Annie Dorris, sitting on a bed in the negro family’s garage home with the link chain wrapped around her neck. The father 'said he had been having trouble keeping the girl home and was fearful she would leave while he was out on his job collecting junk. .
Fall Into Pit—A man suffered head injuries when he fell into a pit at the Railways Department’s repair shop in Mowbray street about 8.30 a.m. yesterday. He is Mr F. Fox, of 154 Fitzgerald avenue. He was taken by ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition wasTeported last evening to be satisfactory.
