Otaki Stable’s Strong Hand

"Th* Pres*" Special Service WELLINGTON. July 22. The Preston stable at Otaki should have excellent prospects ot winning 'the Manawatu Hunt Cup Steeplechase tor the third year in succession at Awapunl tomorrow.

Last year and the year before the stable won the race with Water Mill. Tomorfbw it will be represented by a strong bracket comprising West Derby and Orellno. The bracket will be a strong favourite. West Derby has won his last three races in succession—at Awapuni, Hastings and Trentham in the -diack and hunter class—and Orellno gave evidence of quickly returning to form when he finished third in the Matal Steeplechase and ran a dead-heat for Second in the Eric Riddlford Steeplechase on the second and third days of the Wellington meeting. The TAB. double will be on the Winter Cup Trial Handicap, one mile, and the Tararua Hack Handicap, one mile and three furlongs. Popular fancies in the first leg include Mama Mia, Fairassan and Warwick, which raced prominently In their Trentham engagement*, and Land, which ha* not raced since he finished a close second to Mama Mia (a Trentham winner) in the Longlands Handicap at Hastings on July 2. Land has worked attractively at Hastings this week. The best prospects tor the second leg should be Awol, Beau Kura. Truxton and Anahlta, which raced well at Trentham, where Awol won and the others were placed. There was rain in Palmerston North today bgt the forecast is for mainly fair weather tomorrow. The track will be heavy. Selections:—
