HIGHER-DENSITY HOUSING
Multi-Unit State Dwellings Fifty-four per cent, of the total of State rental units completed during the year were in the form of multi-unit dwellings, says the annual report of the Ministry of Works. In this higher density housing the units ranged from the familiar “double units” and -“four units” to newly designed duplex flats (four identical flats two on each floor) and single-storey atrium flats each with its own enclosed living court. . Contracts were let for further blocks of star flats. These are of three-storey reinforced concrete, each containing 12 units. The 22 blocks of star flats at present under contract will accommodate about 800 people, says the report.
