THE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE WAITE AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE. The University invites applications for appointment at the Waite Institute as: (1) PLANT PATHOLOGIST, to conduct investigations on the root and stem rots of wheat. (2) CEREAL BREEDER, to undertake plant breeding studies with wheat. Each appoinment is financed by a grant from the Wheat Industry Research Council and will be made within the Lecturer salary range of £AISOO-80-2060 with provision for superannuation on the F.S.S.U. basis. The salary scale is under review and is likely to be increased this year. The appointment is for three years in the first instance, renewable annually thereafter as long as supported by the Wheat Council. The Waite Institute has excellent facilities in field, glasshouse and laboratory for work in each of these disciplines, and each lecturer will be associated with a considerable group of colleagues in his own field of study. DEAN OF MEDICINE The Interim Council of Monash University is proceeding immediately with the establishment and erection of a Medical School on the University site at Clayton, a suburb some 12 miles east-south-east from the City of Melbourne. Initial clinical instruction will be shared between two existing hospitals but the ultimate plan provides for such work also being done in a new teaching hospital to be built on the University site.

In view of the urgent need to proceed with establishment the Interim Council intends to appoint as soon as possible a fulltime Dean of Medicine. The Dean will, amongst other things, be responsible for advising the Council on the appointment of professors fbr the pre-clinical and clinical fields and on the broad policy to be adopted for the School, including the general structure of the course and the arrangements for clinical training. The Dean should have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the problems involved in medical training in the Australian context. Salary: Subject to negotiation but will approximate £5OOO (Australian) plus superannuation similar to F.S.S.U.
