APPLICATIONS are invited for the following Registrar positions on the Medical staff of the Otago Hospital Board for the year commencing on Ist January, 1961: 1. Preference will be given to candidates with at least five years’ suitable experience. DUTIES: To take charge of the Town Planning Section in the Department of Lands, Mines and Surveys and to be responsible for a wide range of duties including the carrying out of planning surveys and Research; the preparation and inpiementation of outline development plans and detailed layouts, particularly in the sphere of low-cost housing; and to advise the Director of Lands and Local Authorities on planning legislation and practice generally; including the control of development. The appointment would be on a 3-year contract in the first instance The salary scale is £(F)840 x 40-1000 x 50-(1100) x 50(1400) x 50-1700, the entry point to be in accordance with the appointee’s qualifications and experience. In addition a post allowance is payable in the range £(F).160 to £(F)J00, according to basic salary, and a gratuity at the rate of 15 per cent, of basic salary. Box 675 2673 COLONY OF FIJI ASSISTANT ENGINEERS (CIVIL) PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Applications are invited tor the tolowing positions:— WATER ENGINEER: Applicants should be an Associate Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers or hold a Diploma or Degree which wiH exempt him from parts 1 and 2 of the Institution’s Exammation. He must have had at least 5 years’ post graduate experience in Water Supply Work, Including design and operation of large Water treatment plants and pumping stations and it is desirable that he should have had experience in the design and operation of land drainage and sewerage schemes and in hydrological Investigations. Duties include the design and construction of new works and the administration and supervision of existing schemes. ROAD ENGINEERS: Applications are invited for positions which will become vacant during the next few months. Applicants should have a similar professional qualification as Water Engineer, and should have had 3-S years’ practical experience on road constructions with a recognised authority. SALARY SCALE FOR ASSISTANT ENGINEERS: £(F)£4O x 40-1000 X 50-1400 X 50-1700. the entry point to be determined by the candidate’s experience and qualifications. A post allowance will also be payable to the scale £(F).100 x 5200 x 10-3000. Upon satisfactory completion of a three year contract period the officer will be entitled to a gratuity at a flat rate of 15 per cent of contract salary earned during the period of service. Appointment to the permanent establishment may be offered to suitable candidates on completion of the three year contract.
