Candidates must be at least seventeen years of age on February 29, 1961, or sixteen years nine months, if they have had a year in the sixth form. DIVISION A TWO YEAR PRIMARY TEACHER TRAINING COURSE: The minimum educational qualification for admission to Division A. is a pass in the School Certificate Examination. Applications from students sitting this Examination this year will also be considered, although candidates who have already passed the examination will, of course, be given preference in selection. ' DIVISION C POST-PRIMARY TEACHER TRAINING COURSE: An applicant for admission to Division C must be a graduate of a recognised University or have, as a matriculated student, satisfactorily completed a three years’ course in Agriculture or Home Science at a College recognised by the University of New Zealand, or have obtained some other educational qualification which is, in the opinion of the Director of Education, equivalent thereto. Candidates may be admitted to the course lacking one unit of a degree. However, if a stage II or 111 unit is required to complete then terms must previously

have been kept. Candidates may submit their applications in anticipation of their obtaining the required entrance qualifications by the time the Training College opens. All candidates who hold PostPrimary Teaching bursaries should Indicate this on their application. DIVISION H HOMECRAFT TEACHER TRAINING COURSE: The Homecraft course is distinct from the University Home Science Course leading to a degree or diploma. There are, however, affiliations with this course. Candidates will be selected for their interest tn Homecraft subjects, and preference will be given to girls who have taken a good range of Homecraft subjects at a postprimary school. The minimum educational qualification is a pass in the School Certificate or University Entrance Examination at the time of application. Those who are successful In their applications will' have an excellent opportunity of obtaining positions as Domestic Science Instructresses in the various Education districts throughout New Zealand. The Homecraft Course is of three years’ duration. Made up of (a) a course of two years at the Dunedin Teachers’ College, and (b) a period of twelve months - as a Probationary Assistant teaching Homecraft in an approved school (postPrimary or manual training school). COMMERCIAL TEACHERS’ TRAINING COURSE: Students for this course will be selected from girls who—(a) have passed the School Certificate Examination (including Commercial subjects) and are in Form VI preparing for Endorsed School Certificate or University Entrance at the time of application, or (b> have completed the Senior School of Commerce course at the Technical School in Auckland or Dunedin or a similar course elsewhere. The course will comprise two years at the Auckland Teachers’ College followed by a year as a Probationary Assistant. There is a possibility that a Commercial Course will be held at Christchurch Teachers’ College next year. The course will involve instruction in commercial subjects and in the technique of teaching them. Tn addition, English, Education, Core Mathematics and such other subjects as may be considered desirable, will be Included. A Commercial Teachers’ Certificate will be issued on the completion of the Probationary Assistantship and this will be accepted for teaching in a postprimary school. MATHEMATICS - SCIENCE TEACHER TRAINING COURSE: Students for this course will be selected from girls who have University Entrance or Endorsed School Certificate with evidence of ability in Mathematics and Science. Pupils in lower sixth may apply in anticipation of gaining the required qualiflcaThe course consists of . two years at either the Auckland or Christchurch Teachers’ College, followed by a year as a Probationary Assistant. At the conclusion of the three year training period a Teachers’ °C” Certificate will be awarded. Consideration will also be given to applications from EXSERVICEMEN who have had not less than three years’ sound secondary education and who would be under 40 years of age on February 28, 1961. Candidates will require to be interviewed by the Selection Committee at times to be arranged at convenient centres, due notice of which will be given.
